More controversy involving testing of Lance Armstrong’s team at the Tour de France

France’s anti-doping agency recently criticized cycling’s governing body, known as U.C.I., for giving preferential treatment to the Asanta cycling team that featured Tour de France winner Alberto Contodor and third place finisher Lance Armstrong.

The criticism was reported in a 10-page report by the French anti-doping agency that concluded Asanta “benefited from special treatment from U.C.I. officials” during the Tour. The special treatment included allowing Asanta to be the last team tested every morning and giving them extra time to report for testing. Details of the report were reported the French newspaper Le Monde.

The U.C.I. denied the allegations in the report.

Some people will respond that this is another example of Le Monde and the French anti-doping agency relentless pursuit of Lance Armstrong. Others might question why one team be repeatedly tested last and given extra time to report?

There has only been one cyclist to test positive at this year’s Tour de France
